ISPConfig 3 - Auto Installer 'hung on installing basic packages'

Discussion in 'Installation/Configuration' started by Harvey Sharman, Apr 27, 2016.

  1. Hi all and support,

I have Debian 8 64bit installed on an Intel i5 12GB RAM and installing ISPConfig 3 in an unattended installation (auto Installer) in root GUI login but after when it does checking 'Internet Connection' and 'Installing pre-required packages', it does nothing for an hour on 'Installing basic packages...' Does not say it has completed or done.

    Help... Harvey Sharman :(

The last time I tried the auto-installer, it worked for me. But this installer is not a script of the ispconfig project, if you want to be sure to get a working setup, then use one of the official installation guides:

I've never used the auto installer so don't know what expected output would be, so this is just guessing, but if this system is otherwise unused mabye one of the packages being installed is generating a key pair, and waiting for system entropy - try opening another login to the server and do something like: 'find / -type f -exec stat {} \; > /dev/null'

It may or may not help, but I've seen systems sit like that for hours because there was absolutely nothing else going on to generate entropy.

    Thank you much appreciated.

I spent all afternoon and got it all up and running. It seemed to be me choosing prerequisites for gnome, web and mail features when installing Debian 8 from the DVD before doing anything else so I left all this unticked.

I now have added domains and emails all working including Roundcube.

What I need to work out is when I do an email header analyser with 'mxtoolbox', the email delivery says localhost It displays my proper hostsname and domain but in between it has localhost did change the hostname file and host file.

Also I may need help to point me in the direction to do a fully qualified domain SSL certificate from Digicert as not really keen on self-signed certificates. Assuming I just create a .CSR key with OpenSSL commands and send of to Digicert then when they send me .crt certificate, I just place this in the Apache or does it go in to the ISPConfig files or control panel somewhere?

    Thank you
    Harvey Sharman :)

That's ok and nothing to worry about. The mail gets scanned by amavis on localhost, this has no affect on spam scoring.
  6. Of course thank you for that.

I would of done the "Perfect server" guides to install the software process, but think I am too lazy as get tired of coding all the time.

    Harvey :)
