Hi So I installed ISPConfig 3 and setup my server along the guide lines of the guide here. I even bought the manual for ISPConfig 3. I followed all the instructions but still cant get my server to link anything to my domain name I bought on Go Daddy. By nothing I mean email, web hosting, even accessing the control panel, which I have to access through the IP and not the example1.hostname.com. How can I link the two? Do I need two servers for two name servers. Or do I even need to be the name server? Can I use Go Daddy? I have almost positively done something wrong. I just can't for the life of me figure out what? Please Help? AndrewCow
You can use the godaddy nameservers and dont have to use the nameserver from ispconfig. Running your own nameserver makes sense if you run a higher number of domains only as you need at least 2 nameservers in different subnets.
How exactly do I link the Go Daddy name and the server?? Is it in the manual? I'm quite stupid Thanks AndrewCow
Andrew, please don't post duplicate threads. I was just about to respond to your other thread... glad I saw this one first. Firstly, this is not an ISPConfig issue. This is a basic networking issue. That said, you need to create two records in your GoDaddy control panel: an "A record" and an "MX record" (the latter is used for mail). This link includes you everything you need to know: http://help.godaddy.com/article/680#arecs Point both the A record (yourdomain.com) and the MX record (mail.yourdomain.com) to your ISPConfig server's IP address, save the zone file, and you're done.
