Hello, I am currently using two machines on our office: both of them are running Etch. One is the web server - also used as gateway, where all the related things are stored and the other one is the mail server. Is there possible to install ISPConfig on the mail server and using it ONLY for e-mails? The MX and A records of the mail server created on the web server will work same way if I am going to install ISPConfig on the mail server? Thank you very much indeed. Axel.
You can do that, but ISPConfig will still create web sites on the mail server (of couse, the web sites won't be used if the DNS records point to the web server). The MX records of your domains must point to the mail server.
Thank you very much for your answer. So basically, what I need to do is like this: - keeping the "domain.com" and all of the related records on the web server; - creating the "domain.com" client on ISPConfig; - creating the false website with the name "domain.com" pointing on the actual IP; - on the "User & email" tab, creating the actual e-mail addresses; - on the DNS manager, creating a master zone which is pointing on the actual records from the gateway. Is this correct? I am actually using ISPConfig for the first time and it's exciting to experiment a bit on it... Thank you very much, indeed. Axel.
