Hi I am on suse 10.0 with 64bit (background)

I changed the install file so that ispconfig would install.(background)

    (Problem)
and my problem now is that the pop3 server is offline and there is no option to start/restart it. So what is used as the pop3 server and where can I find it..... or how do I fix the problem.

    Thanks

Does ispconfig shows it offline or have you tried with an emailclient like thunderbird or outlook? ISPConfig checks only the pop3 port on localhost, if your pop3 is not listening on the IP 127.0.0.1 it shows offline in ISPConfig even if it might work on your main server IP.

it shows offline on ispconfig but I have not checked it through any email clients, I have not got that far in my testing. What do I need to do to make it show up right in ispconfig and is there a conf file that I can look in ect....

    Thanks

When trying to use webmail I get this error

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to localhost:110 (Connection refused) in /home/admispconfig/ispconfig/web/webmail/inc/class.uebimiau_mail.php on line 66

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/admispconfig/ispconfig/web/webmail/inc/class.uebimiau_mail.php:66) in /home/admispconfig/ispconfig/web/webmail/msglist.php on line 64

Also when trying to look at a client web page I get this error:
    Access forbidden!
You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

    Error 403

I have checked the file and folder permissions and they are set to allow everyone read access.

    Thanks

Plese try a real email client, webmail also connects only to localhost.

Have you restarted pop3, xinetd and postfix? Alternatively you can restart the whole server to make sure all services are restarted after you configured them.

Done 3 or 4 full system restarts.

    pop3 restart how???

    xinetd restart fails

    postfix restarts fine

xinetd fails.... how do I check what the problem is.

    Thanks

Also I have checked all the files in /etc/xinetd.d and all the files are set to disable "yes"..... now to me some if not all should be set to "no".... am I right or am I not getting this at all.

    Thanks

Can you post the output of
    Code:
    ls -l /etc/xinetd.d/
    and
    Code:
    netstat -tap
    ?

Ok here they are however I have changed all the config files in xinetd folder so that all the "disable" are set to "no" and this makes xinetd start so here are is the output.

OK this is where I am at now, all the services are up my test website is working all of that looks good for now.

The problem I have now is e-mail cant send or recieve anything, I have checked and unchecked the maildir and nothing happens.

One thing to note is that this domain I am trying to send e-mail to is hosted on another ISP and I have changed the dns entries a couple of months ago so that www goes to x.x.x.4 and mail goes to x.x.x.3

Ok I sorted out the not viewing of customer sites by change the first ip used on ispconfig to .4 and bingo the page works... so is this problem something like that.

Also if you have any comments about my previous problems I am still interested to know if what I did was right or wrong.

    Thanks

Please be a bit more detailed on your email problem. Did you get error messages? Did the server bounce the emails? Did the email arrive in the maildir in the users home directory or in a mailbox under /var/spool/mail. Which messages appear in the maillog when you send a message?

Sending mail through the webmail I get this on the screen

It was not possible to send this e-mail

SMTP Error: Recipient not accepted. Verify your relay rules

    « Back

And there is no change in mail file sizes, except the root e-mail file is 19.9Kb

When I send to this account I get no bounced mail and the mail.log file is shown below.

Ok, you should edit /etc/postfix/main.cf and replace permit_sasl__authenticated with permit_sasl_authenticated. Restart Postfix afterwards.

Regarding your POP3 problem: Please post the output of
    Code:
    ls -l /etc/init.d/

You have an error error in your main.cf file:

    > Oct 30 18:50:52 T1-01 postfix/smtpd[13854]: warning: unknown smtpd restriction: "permit_sasl__authenticated"

search for the word: "permit_sasl__authenticated" and replace it with: "permit_sasl_authenticated"

Hold on I have checked the maildir box in ispconfig and I have now got mail in and I can send mail out.... fingers crossed....

And once again thanks for all your help

Ok, you're using Courier-POP3. That's a standalone damon not run by xinetd, and it uses Maildir. So you have to enable Maildir in ISPConfig. To start the Courier services, run

    Code:
    /etc/init.d/courier-imap start
    /etc/init.d/courier-imap-ssl start
    /etc/init.d/courier-pop start
    /etc/init.d/courier-pop-ssl start
