I've been watching the website daily and have seen that there have been no new releases since early Februrary. What's up with ISPConfig? 1) Is ISPConfig 2.x branch still under development? For how much longer if it is? 2) When will ISPConfig 3.x branch reach a stable release stage? Several other ISPConfig users have been asking if I have read anything since I'm addicted to the website and forum. Just thought I would ask and so we can get the word out on this great opensource system!!! I shall try to say this in German, but I barely remember any... erhalten sie die gute arbeit aufrecht. (keep up good work continuing is what i was trying to say in a general translation)
It is and will be for a long time. The next release will be in a few days and will support the new distributions that willl be released in April (Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva). We don't know a date yet.
I would really love to see the 2.3 dev branch released as stable soon. But in order to achieve this it has to be tested more. So it would be nice if a new version would be released at the same time as the stable release.
Although I would love to see these releases of the new branches go stable relatively soon, I realize that there is more to be done!!! I just think it's amazing that you all have put this together as opensource... Once that new layout becomes the norm and the new features are the norm (in the development branch(es)) then ISPConfig will kick Cpanel and Plesk in the nads. I would venture to guess that business on professional installations would pick up as the opensource software gains further recognition... At any rate, falko, till, and everyone else involved, keep up the great work and we all are looking forward to the new releases whenever they come!!!
If more poeple would test the dev releases, we would be able to release them as stable sooner. But currently nearly nobody seems to test them, so the software did not mature and we can not release them as they may contain bugs that break installations.
Of course, I know this, and I also believe that I am one of the only one to use the dev version. I made a couple of changes since 2.3.3, and as OS support for newer distribution is not present in 2.3.3, I find it important to release dev versions more often, which might help people to test them. Even if people can make SVN checkouts, I believe it's easier to test a released version. I know it's some extra work to release a dev and a stable version at the same time, but it might help at probing this version more.
