I downloaded the Perfect Server ISPConfig VM module that includes Ubuntu 18.04 and opened it successfully in VirtualBox. However, it will not let me log in using the default root password provided in the online documentation. Has it been changed? TIA

The password shown in the guide is correct. You can not login as root on any Ubuntu system as Ubuntu forbids root logins. You have to login as user 'administrator' user and then use 'sudo -s' to become root user on the shell.
