OK, let me explain! I have a domain I've just started to host for a friend. His website will be hosted on one of my ISPConfig boxes. His mail, however, needs to go direct to his exchange server, via the MX record. (There is a backup MX record in place so should all be fine). I can't seem to find a way to create a virtual host for web, without it sticking an annoying entry in /etc/postfix/local-host-names for it as well, and creating an e-mail address for the website user. Oh - my ISPConfig box is hosting primary DNS too. It's usually very helpful, but in this case, it actually means I can't do what I want! Anyone know of a workaround? I had thought of creating the website under a dummy name, and putting ServerAlias directives in the "Apache Directives" area of the host config, which would work, but surely there's a better way? That's a good thought actually, I hadn't spotted that. Still no joy though. If I add even just the site to ISPConfig, even without creating a user, even with that option selected, then it adds the domain to the local-domain-names file in /etc/postfix, whether I like it or not! That, of course, means that any mail being delivered locally from the machine to that domain (like, from me for example!) will be incorrectly routed. Any other ideas? Many Thanks, Neil
Did you also set the co-domain to external Mail-Server. if you create www.example.com the co-domain example.com will be automaticly created.
You have just been upgraded to genius status! That was spot on. I hadn't even seen that there was an external mailserver option for the co-domains as well. It's now set up and working just how I need it to be. You know - I've used my own server management system (which was perfect of course(!), but copyright to my previous employer!) and I've used Cpanel/WHM (urgh). I've not yet found anything of note I can't do in ISPConfig. Why the whole world doesn't use it, I'll never know! Thanks once again. Neil
