Hello, I'm setting up my server following the tutorial from: 'The Perfect Server - Debian Lenny (Debian 5.0) With BIND & Dovecot [ISPConfig 3]'. I'm running xinetd instead of inetd, would this pose a problem? I set it up once before with xinetd and I kept getting an error from ISPConfig3 saying that my FTP Server was offline. So can it work with xinetd?
ISPConfig uses neither inetd nor xinetd, so it does not matter for ispconfig. Just make sure that pure-ftpd runs as standalone daemon and is not configured in inetd nor xinetd. see perfect setup guide for details.
still not working Thanks till, but... I followed the perfect server tutorial twice and still ISPConfig is reporting that my FTP Server is offline. Since it's not an xinetd issue, what could it be? I also should point out that I am running ISPConfig on a VPS. I saw instructions in the tutorial for VPS hosted on OpenVz, but I am not the host, I pay for hosting. Also I set up a different server on the same host quite successfully with ISPConfig 3, a few months ago.
The pronlem is the virtual machine, not the ispconfig setup. Please see ispconfig FAQ on how to recompile pure-ftpd so that it starts on your VM: http://www.faqforge.com/linux/contr...irtual-machines-without-capabilities-enabled/
it worked (almost) Thanks till, I followed the instructions and it works! (forget the title of the post, thought I was having an error I wasnt having). thanks for coming to my rescue (again).
