HI Guys (Till), I'm looking at replacing my current ispconfig setup on debian 8 to a new debian 9 system. I have tested a dist-upgrade on a copy of the server, and things didn't work out to well. It turned into a mess. My config is a VM on proxmox. My question(s) is about the operation of the ispcopy module. 1, Can it be purchased on it's own? 2. Does both the old & new server need to be online? 3. Is it a matter of running the copy program on old server, and it saves a archive to local disk? 4. I then copy the archive and then run the script to restore the setup? Thanks, Stephen
No, the ISPCopy Tool is available only as part of the Migration Toolkit. Yes. The tool copies the data from old to new server with Rsync, so both systems must be online.
Does the ISPCopy Tool work, when SOURCE server is Debian 8, and TARGET server is Debian 9? The instructions tell I have assumed it is not enough that both servers are Debian, they must also be same version.
It works but it's not perfect and might require manual config changes when you do that as you copy Debian 8 config files to Debian 9. Most things get fixed when you do an ISPConfig update with reconfigure services at the end, but there may remain problems. The better choice is to use the Migration Tool instead of ISPCopy when the OS version differs. Thank's for pointing that out @Taleman, I should have explained that point in my post.
