It is a good idea to install Debian 10 on the sdc disk instead of the first one ie sda?

    Hello everybody,
they gave me a new remote dedicated server where the SATA SSD disks are in position 3 and 4 (sdc and sdb) while the two storage HDDs are sda and sdb.

I have to install Debian 10 on the two SSDs in Raid 1 and I was wondering if there are any contraindications with this configuration especially in case of failure of one of the system disks.

All the servers I have managed have always had the operating system on sda and sdb: does anyone have experience of configurations on sdc and sdd?

    Thank you,
    Luca

It does not matter on which disk you install linux root partition. It may be the BIOS of that computer can only boot from /dev/sda, but it is enough to install grub on that disk.

    Thanks for your answer Taleman!

If I understand correctly, in case (that is, only if) the BIOS of that server is set to boot only from sda I should install grub in the sda mbr to make it boot from sdc, correct?

But normally the BIOS looks in all the disks and then I could install on sdc / sdd and put the grub in the sdc / sdd mbr, taste?

Sorry but I wouldn't want to make a mistake and then find myself in trouble...

    Correct.
If it does not work you see it at first boot, so not much is lost. Then you just read the docs and install in a different way.
