    Hi there!
I just started learning Linux for a college class, and I'm really starting to enjoy it. I have tried both the basic GNOME desktop, and KDE's Plasma. I like both, but going forward I'd really like to dedicate my time to just one. Which is best for a beginner who's looking to become more fluent in Linux?
    Thanks!

Install (Debian Based) Promox and create one or more VM for your project. You can install any linux OS in its VM and try them out.

use whatever one you prefer. they're pretty much all interchangeable.
although if you're really looking to become more fluent in linux, and want to be able to use what you learn directly on servers, then forget the gui's and just use the cli.
linux server's will very rarely have a gui installed, so if you only learn how to do anything using graphical versions of packages, you're going to be lost if you have to do the same things on a server.
