I'm looking for a distro that will install on a legacy system I have here in my office, it's an old 233mmx based system. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For what do you want to use the system? A server? A desktop?

    Hello Mr. Falko.

I'm looking for an alternative to M$ for my customers with older desktops. Most of them have seen my Ubuntu 7.04 system running and were very impressed. However when I tried to install 7.04 on the 233mmx system for example I kept getting errors, so I assumed it would not run on legacy hardware. Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated.

well, you might be better off with DSL (damnsmalllinux) or feather linux... a 233mmx is quite old and slow...

You could try Xubuntu. It uses less resources than Ubuntu, but I'm not sure if an 233mmx system is good enough. You have to try it out.

I had Xubuntu Edgy once on a P-300 with 64mb ram... it was very, very slow... if you have at least 128 mb ram it should be ok... but DSL or feather would still be a viable alternativ...

I've tried different Linux distributions on older hardware.

    - Debian Etch with Xfce on the Desktop
    - DreamLinux

Both really impressed me, because of their speed!
