locate ?

i have noticed that the command locate doesn't work properly at fedora.
and this is happening not only to my box.
every time that i have to find a file the first is to locate then because i get a blank output i try apropos and the same.
but when i search it by my own i locate the file.
this is not happening all the time but it happens.
