LVM partitioned for desktop instead of server

I have setup my partitions under lvm as explained in Lenny/Ipsconfig3 Perfect Server setup. But when I initially was setting it up I accepted a default setup for a desktop user with a large /home directory and fairly small /usr and /var partitions. All of the free space is used up by the /home directory.

I would like to resize the /usr and /var directories by adding 40GB each and removing 80GB from the /home directory. I have seen a couple of LVM tutorials on the site, but I am confused as to which one is the correct one for my setup.

I am unsure as to which way to do this, with knoppix cd, or is that is overkill.
I already am familiar with using knoppix so that is not a problem. I just don't want to lose data.

    Thank you.
