    hi
i prepare a couple of servers following instruccions in "The Perfect Server - Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) with Apache, PHP, MySQL, PureFTPD, BIND, Postfix, Dovecot and ISPConfig 3.1" guide, w/o problems, & i use ispconfig for create clients (log like ADMIN) & , log like client , config sites w/o problems, i use several domain, some .COM, other for ddns, & everything w/o problems, BUT about mail , the things are very diferent, i havent any success, i really did a lot of thing, but i dont sure of several basic thing
1- if i create, under email seccion (log like client) domain and box mail, wich is the email server name? i believe is mail.domain.tld, but it´s a
    assumption
2- if i dont set up a dns zone, and i set mx records with the mail server, and i open router port 25 , is it enought?
i tried 100 times change diferent options, but i never get success
every time when i set up mx record , mxtoolbox give the same result, under IP seccion, "not a record"
in all trieds, i have success sending mail, ( with a long delay ) , but a never receive anythings
    i am really lost .
    i apreciate any help
    tx in advance

Are you using your own name servers sut up wirh ISPConfig?

Email server is the FQDN of the server that handles your e-mail. How many servers do you have?
question 2 is too compicated, I do not understand.
But I do know that e-mail server must have port 25 open both out and in. Also on the connection to your Internet Service Provider.
There has been lots of discussion about e-mail not going in past two weeks.
