I get occasional errors with my mail server, especially with my outgoing mail. I checked the "mail" log and found a lot of this error:

and the following in the mail.err file

Is the package "fam" from your linux distribution installed? If not, please intsall it.

How do I do that? I'm running SuSe 9.2.

    Try:

    yast -i fam

When I try that it asks for CD2. Is there another way? I'm doing this remotely.

You can try to find the package e.g. at rpmseek and install it with the "rpm" command.

    I tried apt-get:

Ok, then a missing fam daemon seems to be not the source of the problem. Are you sure that your harddisk is not full:

    df -h

or that the quota of a user is full:

    repquota -avug

I don't think so. There is still plenty of space available, and all of the users are set to unlimited space. I have noticed the same outgoing mail server error that I get occasionally when I'm on using a public internet connection.

It gives errors sporadically from Apple mail, saying:

I also have occasional trouble connecting.
