mail server name

I just want to know what is the default name for mail server ?
if it is mail.mydomainname is it possible to change it ?

You can call it whatever-you-like.mydomainname, as long as the MX record is set to it.

Yes that is correct

Create an A record with "some-name" and the correct IP address (the IP of the mail server.)

Now in the MX part add the "some-name_domainname " that you created in the A record.
I normally put a @ in the host name, and the "some-name_domainname" in the "Mailserver", but for what I have understood is that you do not need to add the @ in the host name.

Basically the A record is telling the world that your MX name (used for mail) is what-ever-you-call-it.domainname, located at IP .... (true IP of mail server (NOT LAN IP) )
