Mail server showing different IP?

    Hi all,

A quick one - hopefully someone can provide insight.

My Server is up & running fine, it took a while for all of the DNS things to properly resolve to my IP - but when I do an NSlookup on mail.mysite.net, it returns an Address of 208.67.219.132 - a ping -a to this address shows hit-nxdomain.opendns.com

Is this correct? Should my mail server resolve to the opendns IP?

    All info appreciated.

    Do you use opendns?

Nope, not that I know of.
In ISPCOnfig I have created an MX record for mail.mysite.net, so it should be resolving to that, shouldn't it? All of the other records (ftp / ns1 / www) are resolving fine.. any ideas?

The MX record is only for emails and it points to a hostname or domain and not and IP, so you need also a A-Record for mail.mysite.net pointing to the IP of your server.

Ahhh - it becomes clearer for me now!

Thanks so much for your help on this - I'll go about creating an A record.
