    Hi all.

I'm trying to setup the ISPConfig virtual appliance as an email server (I already have my web hosting taken care of) and DNS server.

Everything seems to be working fine apart from a couple of niggles:

    1) I can't login to the webmail with my created user. I get 'wrong username / password' every time. I'm sure I've got these details right, since I'm going straight from setting up the user to the webmail page, but it refuses to let me log in.

    2) outgoing email doesn't appear to be working. It took quite a bit of fiddling to get incoming emails working... but I can now see them showing up in the appropriate home directory, but if I set a forward on an account... the email doesn't get forwarded. Since I'm unable to login to the webmail I can't see whether sending emails is broken or the forwarding funcitonality is broken, but I assume it's the sending part that isn't working.

I have no idea where to start diagnosing these problems. HALP!

In the webmail interface, you must use the email address as the username.

Any errors in your mail log? Did you enable "Server requires authentication" in your email client?

Yes, that's what I am doing.

Every time I try to login there's a pause (of at least 30 seconds or so) before I get the 'cannot login with those details' message.

I'm not using a mail client as such, this is purely using the built in mail forwarding functionality. Where do I find the mail log to check for errors?

The mail log is in the /var/log directory.
