Is it safe to erase this file? On my server, in a little over 2 months, it has grown to over 1.7 gigs in size.

What falko means that you will have to keep the mail logfiles for a certain time in some countries.

wasn't there a distinction between serious ISPs and "homegrown"-ISPs ? At least in Germany I heard talk about this... meaning that if you provide services for 3 clients you do not need to log? I am not sure about this so plz. correct me if I am wrong..

In germany there is a distinction. If i remember correctly, the rules for ISP's with less then 1000 accounts are not so strict. But I never found an explanation if accounts means clients or email accounts :( I think a law court will decide this sooner or later :(
