I am using freebsd 5.4 with a sata raid 1 mirror. Our motherboard failed. I have a snapshot using selfimage from before the crash. I have applied it to a vm but I can't mount it. I receive the following errors: "can't find rootvp" and "Root mount failed:6" I am new to linux taking over the responsibilities for this box. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Where do you get these errors? In the vm or on the host? What virtualization technique are you using (VMware, Xen, ...)? Which distribution are you using on the host?
I receive the errors in the VM. We are using microsoft virtual pc. The error occurs after the freebsd menu. If you select any option such as single user instance, everything looks like it is going great until the time to mount the drive. We are using freebsd ver 5.4. The original systems motherboard is not working.
The problem might be that VirtualPC is emulating different hardware (e.g. hard drives) than the one used on the original system.Maybe FreeBSd is having problems with the changed "hardware".
