I saw in the svn log that the default home for vmail moved from /home/vmail to /var/vmail

Reading this thread I was wondering if I should move the home following the steps.

Would there be a problem in future if I leave it in /home/vmail ?
Would there be benefits if I move it to /var/vmail ?

Only the default was changed. Existing installations should not be affected.

i installed ispconfig on a clean ubuntu system and thought ispc3 would use /var/vmail/ as default for the mailboxes. I had to change some paths from /home/vmail to /var/vmail in main.cf and other scripts and files after installation.

I thought i use /var/vmail to get no problems in the future but now i have problems every time i update ispc3 from svn because the paths are set to /home/vmail in the config-files ...

Can i update the paths in the svn install dir or is this not wanted?

I thought I changed that already. You can change that in the config files in SVN.
