Hi All, I have successfully setup ISPConfig on Ubuntu 7.10 as per the perfect server setup instructions. Now, I have a question to satisfy my area.. In my area I have two major ISPs each providing static ips. My ISPConfig box is on the local network (via a switch). At the moment, I am using one router (for one of the ISP) to forward outside requests to the internal ISPConfig box. So far, this is good. Now, I'd like to connect our other ISP (for a very good reason see * below) on another router and do the same, forward outside requests to the same ISPConfig box. My question now is will this work? Will the requests/reply be sent back properly? Also, in ISPConfig, I believe I have to enter the two public ips? Since these two ips wil be used by DNS, will my clients be given the closests public ips according to my DNS according to which network they are requesting from? * Since both ISPs have their own satellite connections, in order for one client from one isp to view content on the other isp, they have to go out of the country and back via the other satellite connection. Hopefully this solution will serve this purpose by allowing clients from either isp to connect much quicker to content hosted on this ISPConfig box. I look forward to ideas and comments to enable faster content serving in my area/region. My main issues are i.) will the extra router work? ii.) how the DNS would work if I listed both ips, how would the client choose where to find the host?? the quickest route or the first provided ip? (if a client gets given the ip from the other isp, and it would take longer to download the page.. Kind regards, Karotu ps: sorry for the long post,..
I guess this should work. But your server will most likely request all data trough one connection as you have just one gateway. No, as you use only private IP's in ISPConfig for the websites anyway and the public IP's dont have to be added on the server. the public IP is only needed in the DNS records.
So in order for this to work, I will have to setup a firewall that would route the replies to whichever they came from? If this could be the solution, could you kindly give me some pointers so I could start from there please? Many thanks for the quick reply!!! 1 step closer..
