Multiple MySQL servers or Upgrade MySQL

    I use ISPConfig 3 on Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS. MySQL 5.5
    I need to add MySQL 5.6.
    What is the best solution?
    a) install MySQL 5.6 as second MySQL service
    or
    b) upgrade MySQL 5.5 to 5.6 version
    My server is on production and I don't want to break it down.
    What solution has short down time?
    What solution is safe to run on production server?
