I reloaded my server with debien. the perfect setup. When I set up postfix, I used server1 for the mail. was I supose to use mail? I went to were I have my domain and they have mail.mywebsite.com. along with www,ftp,ect. Do I need to change the post config to (mail) in front of domain? Or dose the mail mx records use server1 (what I used when setting up the server) to deliver mail and update the mx records?
It doesn't matter what you use for the hostname, as long as it exists in DNS. And make sure that the MX records point to the correct server. So if you use server1.example.com as the hostname, make the MX records point to server1.example.com (you could also point them to any other A record that points to the same server).
