Hi all, I'm a happy user of ISPConfig 3 for years now (started originally with version 2). My current server is aging and needs replacement. It is based upon Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with a lot of modifications. As I'm much more familiar to Red Hat instead of Debian/Ubuntu, I would like to use CentOS. As 7 is aging and 8 is (hopefully) there after the summer, I plan to start with 7 and upgrade the server to 8 by the end of the year. Now I'm wondering whether that is a good plan. What is the change of ISPConfig getting support for CentOS 8 (soon) and is an upgrade safe enough to do on a production system? Many thanks in advance, Bas.
We will add support for CentOS 8 when it has been released and when all third-party packages are available that we need for ISPConfig. This may take a few months as CentOS unlike Ubuntu and Debian does not have all required applications in its base repository. If a CentOs 7 to 8 upgrade will be easy or now, who knows. This can not be answered unless the CentOS 8 setup is ready.
Well, taketa look at Fedora 29 and you get an idea how it will look like. It is to be expected that the EPEL repo will be available for CentOS 8 as well. So it would fullfil most if not all ISPConfig requirements. Anyway, good to hear that there is at least the intention to support CentOS8
