I am new to all this. My first question is how do I start. First steps. My goals are as follow:

    1. Install Fedora 12 as web server.
    2. Host my own web sites about 5.
    3. In future host others web sites.
    4. Make PHP, MySQL,MAIL,FTP services available.
    5. Run DNS server for pri/sec DNS Names.

I have ATT DSL Elite package. I have the 2701HG-B DSL modem/Router 4 ports + wireless, it has integrated firewall, and uses automatic DHCP Dynamic IP addressing. I can assign IP's on the router to allow HTTP, MAIL, FTP etc..

My computer is a PIII 8963 MHZ GenuineIntel 32bit processor with 384 MB Memory and 2 hard drives both 55.8 GB

I have downloaded the FEDORA 12 DVD iso checked it and created the DVD.

I am confused about getting started with the settings for the Server (Server Name on install) and then how it applies to DNS/DNS settings and what info to use for DNS.

    Thanks for help in advance

Thank you for the Link and info... When installing the server is there any rules to the HOSTNAME... server name IE.. server1.example.com can i use any name or is there a method that I should use? Is this the name of a web site? or a network server that I am hosting web sites on. Should it use .com with the HOSTNAME.

I'd buy a technical domain that you use just for naming your servers (doesn't matter if it's .com or another TLD). If you are on a dynamic IP, you can get a free hostname from dyndns.org.
