    Hi all...

I've just downloaded Ubuntu Desktop which seesm quite good. I'd like to know how to switch between window managers to play around with each to discover their various merits, like KDE, Gnome etc. How does one go about this?

Also, I've seen some videos on Youtube showing "Beryl" graphical desktop. How do you install this?

I think the only downside to Linus as there are too many distributions - which to use, when amd why!! Is it not possible to compile one distribution to do what you require???

    Thanks

    Ubuntu uses Gnome.
    Kubuntu uses KDE.

At least with Ubuntu, you cannot switch as far as i know. Some other distros come with multiple X systems and then you choose one.

You can make seperate installs or even better use VirtualBox to create virtual installations for playing around.

    In console:
As for Beryl, its now part of compiz which comes with the latest ubuntu release i think. I'm still on 8.04 so i think i had to install it.

That's the whole point of Linux distros. Choice!
Ubuntu should be good for most people unless you are in a business that requires something else..
