I have installed ispconfig 3 using the ubuntu server 10.04 perfect server tutorial. I am just looking to have a web server on our lan to host a couple of web apps we use for our business. I guess access from outside the lan would be great, but for now I just need to get it set up for local use. I guess the first question I have is that I'd like to change the server name that I used in setup. Can I just change the host name under server config? Then I'm not sure how to use the wizard to add a dns zone since it's all local. I'm not sure how complicated this really is. I'm wondering if I need to pay someone to walk me through this & get it setup. I have installed web apps through my web hosts control panel but this is my first trip into creating the platform myself.
You dont have to change the hostname of the server. It does not matter as long as you dont run a email server. To access websites from within a lan, the easiest way is to use the hosts file: http://www.faqforge.com/linux/contr...ess-a-namebased-website-without-a-dns-record/
