    Hello Guys,

I have this question which I hope someone from here will be able to answer. Say I have a domain xyz.com and I've registered my personalized name servers ns1.xyz.com and ns2.xyz.com which I've configured in my server. I contact my domain name registrar and ask them change the name servers of xyz.com to ns1.xyz.com and ns2.xyz.com .

If in the DNS zone configuration file of the domain xyz.com in my server has the following name servers as authoritative listed,

    xyz.com. 14400 IN NS ns1.abc.com.
    xyz.com. 14400 IN NS ns2.abc.com.

and not ns1.xyz.com and ns2.xyz.com, is it wrong or will the domain xyz.com won't resolve properly ? Does some sort of check happen to confirm that the name servers at the registry and in the zone files of the authoritative name server are matching ?

My guess is that the name servers at the registry are checked and which in turn are queried for the requested name resolution info. Any input or pointers in this matter is much appreciated. Thank You.

    It's wrong.

That depends on your registrar. Some do it this way, some in another one...

Please keep in mind that you need a glue record if you want to use ns1.xyz.com and ns2.xyz.com for the domain xyz.com: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dns#Circular_dependencies_and_glue_records
