Hello, I am planning to install Ispconfig 3 on two servers and I would need to run a virtual server on one of them. I have just read that OpenVZ will be deprecated in Debian Wheezy and I am curious what you think about it. Will OpenVZ be replaced in the future versions of Ispconfig or will you keep OpenVZ support? We will keep openvz support in ISPConfig and will extend the vm module with other virtualisation technologies. The OpenVZ project offers kernels for Debian again, so it does not matter if the debian project does not offer a openvz kernel anymore.

I see, thank you. I think there won't be so much difference between Squeeze and Wheezy installation except OpenVZ kernel. Do you think it is ok if I use Squeeze howto and the OpenVZ kernel package from http://download.openvz.org/debian/ repository? Is there anything that I should pay attention to?
This will most likely work. Just check if you get any error messages when you execute commands, e.g. package names can have been changed.
Is the kernel in the openvz repository active developed? I had some problems with bugs in the kernel from debian repository and found the proxmox kernel to be the best developed openvz kernel for debian (1 year ago) @till: do you think this is still fact? Here I posted some hints on how to install the proxmox kernel in debian: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57350 But if you decide to use the proxmox kernel: Make a backup of all config files in /etc/vz/conf before installation and before each update of the kernel. So you can copy them back if they are moved or modified during installation or update. See my post for more info.
This might still be true, I dont read the openvz lists actively so I dont know how active the development is.
If you really decide to use Wheezy as the HW node you'd better off with following this guide: http://openvz.org/Install_kernel_from_RPM_on_Debian_6.0 - it was for Squeeze but should work well. The kernel in the Wheezy repo is actually very old (59) where the current stable is 76.
