    Hi,

I installed our system based on falko howto: postfix,amavidnew,sa,...debian

If users set in their outlook account, leave messages on server , they get messages twice or three times. Do you know how to solve it please?

    thanks in advance.

It never happened to me, except when I was on holidays and had an unreliable internet connection. When the connection breaks down before all emails are fetched from the server, you will get the messages that made it to your PC a second time the next time you try to fetch your mails...

like fobicodam says, it happens all the time, but we can't live with it :( our customers are really angry :(

I rode in google the problem is alias, postfix creates same message id and outlook doesnt undertand it and download same message twice, three or more times :(

i'd really need help to solve this issue.

    thanks

I recommend to use TB if you want to use IMAP...

We only use pop3. we don't want customers use imap because we should to backup all emails from them ;)

Strange... if you download a mail by pop3 it normally gets deleted on the server... so I think this is quite strange that it downloads the email multiple times....

He has it set in outlook to "keep messages on server" With this option enabled, you can download the same email to multiple client machines and you would also have to check another setting [in Outlook] to specify when you want the emails deleted from the server (such as a specific number of days, etc.).

yes, that's the option which WMRWL says. Lot of customers use it, and since we have postfix they are reciving emaisl twice or more times. :(

    thanks

    Why not offer IMAP?

The problem is that sometimes postfix cant lock or get access to the email requested by the pop3 client (aka OE), so, it closed the connection. BUT, as the emails are efective deleted when the connection closes WITHOUT problems, the email downloaded keep as unread on the server, so, in the next OE connection they are still there.

You may experiment also the "-ERR Can't lock mailbox" error. Its when the connection timeout and postfix is still working, it usualy happend when you have lot of big messages and postifx cant lock them all in less time that the connection timeout.

    Solutions:

    - Put some bigger timeout values on you OE.
    - Somehow config the postfix to do not wait to end the connection to delete the emails.

Agreed imap is a great solution. I think pop3 is kind of a messy set up when you allow access from multiple clients.

What kind of setup is this? Is this for your employees or for customers?

It's for customers. It has more than 1.000 emails adressess, we can't offer imap. it takes too many HD space and we should to backup customers emails, and we don't want to do it.

    :(

I'm using the same option and don't have any problems... Is there anything in your mail log? Maybe you're suffering from some kind of mail loop.

    HI,

no no strange things in mail.log. I searched google and some people with same error, and i don't find a real solution. It only happens with accounts which have alias too.
