I'm trying to forge a small linux dedicated PC to download P2P and torrent files. The PC it's equiped with an AMD K6-2 450MHz, 128 RAM, 20GB HDD, CDR Drive. I think I just need a small distro, some P2P or torrent applications and a VNC app. My idea is to access via VNC to select the files to download and copy them to my PC, when they are downloaded. I don't know which is the best distro to do this, nor the applications. Could you help me with this? Thanks in advance, Martin
I think that any distribution would be appropriate for sharing files. The rest depends on the software You'd use. For example You could use an SSH server to upload/download files to/from Your hard disk.You don't need SSH's encryption but setting it up is very easy and fast and shouldn't slow anything down. This was the economical way to do it.The hardware that You specified should work efficiently enough. Some light window manager should work ok as well but it would be a waste of resources to install an X server on a machine that would only be used remotely.
