I have downloaded the pclinuxos-2007 and plan to install on a notebook. Currently, I have Win XP OS and want to rid the notebook of Windows and run linux however, Falco's installation tutorial (which is well done) covers partitioning the HD for running both OS. I just want to run Linux with no partitioning can I just load the OS from my disk on to the clean HD of the notebook?

I installed it on a new HDD, so there was no other system on the HDD. ;)

Just use "Custom disk partitioning" instead of "Use free space" during the installation.

Thank you - worked like a dream

Thanks for for taking the time to reply. This is my first experience with linux so I am still very green.

I tried to load pclinuxos 2007 in a desktop that has windows 98se. After the first screen came up and I chose LIVE CD, it loaded the linux kernel and then proceeded to restart the computer. It did this continuously. Now what?
This is the first time for Linux.

It seems that the Live-CD doesn't support your hardware. Have you tried something else like Ubuntu instead?

I have not tried Ubuntu yet, but I will. I have computers with Windows 98SE and Windows XP on them. Is there an easy way to tell what distro works with what? Maybe I should remove the Windows 98SE and try it that way.
Thank you for the reply. bobbyb110

That's why most distros come with a Live-CD (Ubuntu does, too). That way you can test before you install anything.
