    Fresh server build of 22.04
Running the online perfect server build routine
Straight away I get the FQDN not set error

hostnamectl shows the FQDN, I seem to remember having this on a previous install but can't remember how I overcame it nor can I find any hints out there...

Anybody got some gem of an idea?

    TIA
    Rob

Well you would think after 35 years in server support (linux/wintel) I would have know the order of the host file was important. I have never noticed it being an issue but having the FQDN entry to the right of the host only entry does not work for some things.. This is the first time I have found this.

    Cheers

This has been a long lasting debate between the RedHat and Debian based distros, because they use different standards for the same thing. Personally I don't like the debian standard on this, because it means most shell prompts will look like user@hostname, and if you manage more servers with the same hostname, like "my" or "www" or "mail", many can and willl have the same hostname (not the same FQDN), so all your prompts can look the same, no matter the server your shell is on.
