I have quickly tried ISPConfig, so I can not say I know much about it. I mainly use VHCS on my server, but also keeping an eye out of alternatives out there. I'm just wondering what, if any, performance problems do Hosting Panels etc have. I know VHCS runs daemons in the background etc, and I'm unsure whether or not these can impede the performance of requests etc, does ISPConfig decrease performance? Or does it just touch config files, and that's it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I did a quick search, but didn't find exactly what I was after.
The performance on your server depends on the configuration of your daemons like postfix, apache, mySQL and BIND and not so much on the controlpanle you use to configure them. ISPConfig uses config files which is known to be a bit faster then mySQL based configurations because there is a softwarelayer less in this type of config, but i think that you cant really measure this difference on a normal webserver with some hundred domains and mail accounts.
