The hostname of the server on which ISPConfig is installed is permanently changing from: myhost1.mycompany.com to: myhost2.mycompany.com The hostname myhost1.mycompany is going to be used for other purposes, so it cannot be used at all. During the transition period ONLY, I have myhost2.mycompany.com as a CNAME alias to myhost1.mycompany.com. Once the change of hostname is complete, myhost2.mycompany.com will be changed to an A record with a new IP address. I went to the ISPConfig control panel > Server Config > myhost1.mycompany.com > Server and I see that the Hostname field is present. I'd like to confirm that changing this is the right thing to do and if other manual fixups are needed.
This field is just for informational purposes in ispconfig, it does not set the actual hostname. You will have to change the hostname on the shell. Which Linux distribution does your server use?
I'm using CentOS 6.6 x64. I do see the ISPConfig control panel showing the hostname under Server Config. I'm happy to make manual changes; I'm just looking for some info so that I do this properly so that interactions with ISPConfig are okay.
Are you saying that once I update the hostname, that ISPConfig will automatically update to show it in the Server Config area?
No, you have to change the hostname with the centos network tool. The hostname in the ispconfig config area is just the name that is shwon for the server isnide ispconfig.
