I'm sick and tired of the Plesk problems and have been reading about ISPConfig for quite sometime. It looks awesome, and I'm very curious if anyone would have an idea on how to migrate websites from Plesk to ISPConfig or if it's even possible? I have 30 websites with databases and email addresses that I somehow need a solution for moving with minimal downtime. If there's any ideas, let me know! Thank you all so much.
I'm about to move from DirectAdmin to ISPConfig, and the only route I can think of is the manual site per site change. I'm also switching hardware (thus IP's), so careful planning ahead. IIRC moving from one panel to another is never something automatic. Per case you may be able to automate a couple of things by writing scripts, but that's it. And 30 sites is not that much to do manually....
Agreed, and that's my latest decision. Moving it all piece by piece. My only problem now is how to setup the partitions on CentOS since I have no clue where users and domains install to for storage purposes. On FreeBSD I kept all domain related users in /usr/local/psa/home/ but I don't know how ISPConfig handles these with Linux.
You can specify a directory if you use expert mode during ISPConfig installation. For CentOS the directory defaults to /var/www (which I recommend to use if you want to use suExec). Also take a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_centos_4.4
cool deal. one more key issue, at the end it wants an ip and a domain and so forth, i'm building this server using a different ip than the 10 ips that will ultimately be binded to the machine once everything has been transferred and setup. will this break ispconfig? and, does ispconfig support http://areyouliberal.com instead of requiring www? i keep seeing things about prefixes...
You can change the IP later. And yes, ISPConfig supports domains without www, it adds the domain without www automatically as co-domain to every website, the prefixes are for users and not domains.
