Hello. [I have installed CENTOS 5.1 "perfect server"- successful] [I gave hostname on installtaion for server as redriver.linux.com] [I set server (centos) ip on installation to 192.168.1.150] [I have installed ISPConfig- successful] [I gave ISPConfig info as, host=www domain=friscoface.com] [ISP has given me a static IP and it is tied my Linksys router- 72.24.133.77] [I set config on linksys router to port forward: 21, 25, 80, 81, 110, 443 to the 192.168.1.150] [DNS given by ISP- 24.116.2.50 and .34] [I have godaddy and added A (host) records for friscoface.com- successful] [Pointed ns1.friscoface.com to these ips. (24.116.2.50 and 24.116.2.34)] [dig ns1.friscoface.com- success but under server is shows 24.116.2.50] If anyone can tell me where you see a problem let me know otherwise my question is: If i have port forwarding on, shouldn't my server IP show 192.168.1.150? Please fill the blanks in with details for anyone that wants to help with this as vague answers do me no good. I am very new to this all. thanks, Happz!
thanks for the question falko... I did that because i don't understand what i am doing. where should i point the ns1.friscoface.com? thanks, happz
in case your Registrar charges extra for using their nameserver just like mine, i think your should point ns1.friscoface.com to your Static IP 72.24.133.77 since in your 'Perfect Server' setup DNS(Bind) is also running on the server.
Not sure if i was able to do this before but now i can hit my apache from outside... Thank you cybergal...you may have me on my way... cybergal, thanks for giving me a direct instruction. Point to 72.24.133.77. that may be getting me where i need to be. i can http://72.24.133.77 and hit apache. I just still can not open ispconfig and never have. if my routers ip is forwarding me to my apache home page then i would guess that port forwarding is working for that port. that is one of the issues i thought i might have which is that maybe my ports are not forwarding. i tried to use putty with 72.24.133.77 but no go. i do know that from within the lan the servers ip which is 192.168.1.150 will open in putty. anyway, any ideas on why https://72.24.133.77 won't open and for that matter, https://www.friscoface.com will not go at all. thanks for your straight forward suggestion. i am so new that those kinds of replies help the most. really happz!
Thanks Falko! I did have 81, 443 already enabled. I did add 22 and now i can putty to the server. They all forward to 192.168.1.150. that is the only option i have ...of course the last octet is open for you to place whatever i want in it. i assume 150 is what i need to put in there since that is the ip for the server. When i first setup the server i called the host name redriver.linux.com...should i change something to say www.friscoface.com somewhere? I just don't know but i given out all that i know to give out for info. thanks, happz!!!
Please make sure that the A record for www.friscoface.com is pointing to your public IP address (72.24.133.77).
A record? On godaddy they have a reference to "host record". is that the same thing. should i do something more on godaddy or on my server? sorry for making this go on for so long but once i got to ispconfig the only thing i have is your forum. Everyone seems to not have the same problem as me. that is that even people that seem to report they are new to this can at least log on to ispconfig. If you could answer my 1st question about a records can you also tell me if i'm supposed to make changes on the server someone to reflect my choice in going with the domain friscoface.com as my main source. can i run some commands that will solve me problem according to the results. i see people do it all the time yet i don't what the results mean....not to me that is..lol One last thing..when i do dig ns1.friscoface.com ...at the bottom i see the "server" as 24.116.2.50" seems to be out of place. i know that it is the ip of my dsn for my ISP but why does it show there? could this be my problem? thanks falko!
