Hello, Please assist!! I run postfix 2.3.3 on my server and clients on the local network cannot connect using outlook express to receive mails, but they can send mails through the server. Hope you find the following useful in helping me Main.cf # Please be sure to read the /usr/share/doc/postfix-*/README.MDK file # to learn about differences from stock postfix to Mandriva package. # This file contains only the parameters changed from a default install # see /etc/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, fuller version of this file. # These are changed by postfix install script readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.3/README_FILES html_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.3/html sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix setgid_group = postdrop command_directory = /usr/sbin manpage_directory = /usr/share/man daemon_directory = /usr/lib64/postfix newaliases_path = /usr/bin/newaliases mailq_path = /usr/bin/mailq queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix mail_owner = postfix # User configurable parameters myhostname = mandriva.amlbti.lan mydomain = amlbti.lan myorigin = $mydomain mydestination = $myhostname localhost.$mydomain localhost $mydomain relayhost = 216.219.xxx.xxx mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, 192.168.53.0/24 relay_domains = inet_interfaces = all mynetworks_style = subnet #delay_warning_time = 4h smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name ($mail_version) (Mandriva Linux) unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 450 smtp-filter_destination_concurrency_limit = 2 lmtp-filter_destination_concurrency_limit = 2 recipient_delimiter = + owner_request_special = no alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/aliases, hash:/var/lib/mailman/data/aliases content_filter = lmtp-filter:127.0.0.1:10025 receive_override_options = no_address_mappings smtpd_sender_restrictions = permit_mynetworks Log Nov 27 13:38:01 mandriva vm-pop3d[7415]: Socket closed Nov 27 13:39:26 mandriva vm-pop3d[7417]: Socket closed Nov 27 13:47:07 mandriva vm-pop3d[4281]: Socket closed Nov 27 13:49:46 mandriva vm-pop3d[4369]: Socket closed Nov 27 14:22:15 mandriva vm-pop3d[4692]: Socket closed Nov 27 14:22:28 mandriva vm-pop3d[4698]: Socket closed Nov 27 14:42:07 mandriva vm-pop3d[4839]: Socket closed Nov 27 14:50:29 mandriva vm-pop3d[4845]: Socket closed ~ netstat -tap Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 *:nfs *:* LISTEN - tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 3228/slapd tcp 0 0 *:44679 *:* LISTEN 3007/rpc.statd tcp 0 0 mandriva.amlbti.lan:10025 *:* LISTEN 3357/amavisd (maste tcp 0 0 mandriva.amlbti.lan:10026 *:* LISTEN 3642/master tcp 0 0 *:netbios-ssn *:* LISTEN 3861/smbd tcp 0 0 *op3 *:* LISTEN 3080/xinetd tcp 0 0 mandriva.amlbti.lan:783 *:* LISTEN 3681/spamd -d -c -m tcp 0 0 *:sunrpc *:* LISTEN 2837/portmap tcp 0 0 *:http *:* LISTEN 4078/httpd tcp 0 0 *:10000 *:* LISTEN 3797/perl tcp 0 0 *:944 *:* LISTEN 3309/rpc.mountd tcp 0 0 *:x11 *:* LISTEN 3227/X tcp 0 0 *:51190 *:* LISTEN - tcp 0 0 *:squid *:* LISTEN 3737/(squid) tcp 0 0 *:smtp *:* LISTEN 3642/master tcp 0 0 *:https *:* LISTEN 4078/httpd tcp 0 0 *:ldaps *:* LISTEN 3228/slapd tcp 0 0 *:7741 *:* LISTEN 4136/lisa tcp 0 0 *:microsoft-ds *:* LISTEN 3861/smbd tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 3228/slapd tcp 0 0 *:x11 *:* LISTEN 3227/X tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 3188/sshd tcp 0 0 *:ldaps *:* LISTEN 3228/slapd uname -a Linux mandriva.amlbti.lan 2.6.17-5mdv #1 SMP Wed Sep 13 14:28:02 EDT 2006 x86_64 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5120 @ 1.86GHz GNU/Linux

Did you update vm-pop3d recently? If so, did the problems start before the upgrade, or afterwards? What's in /etc/xinetd.d/vm-pop3d and /etc/xinetd.d/vm-pop3d.rpmsave?
Yes I up updated recently and it has started before the update. vi /etc/xinetd.d/vm-pop3d # default: off # description: The POP3 service allows remote users to access their mail \ # using an POP3 client such as Netscape Communicator, mutt, \ # or fetchmail. service pop3 { disable = no socket_type = stream wait = no user = root server_args = -i -t 600 server = /usr/sbin/vm-pop3d log_on_success += USERID log_on_failure += USERID } ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ vi /etc/xinetd.d/vm-pop3d.rpmsave # default: off # description: The POP3 service allows remote users to access their mail \ # using an POP3 client such as Netscape Communicator, mutt, \ # or fetchmail. service pop3 { disable = yes socket_type = stream wait = no user = root server_args = -i -t 600 server = /usr/sbin/vm-pop3d log_on_success += USERID log_on_failure += USERID } ~ when i also try to retrieve mails using ms outlook it promps me for username and password which i have imputed earlier. I also get this result root@mandriva tacticaled]# telnet localhost 110 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1). Escape character is '^]'. +OK POP3 Welcome to vm-pop3d 1.1.6 <[email protected]> user mayowa +OK pass grh -ERR Bad login
Yes i use the correct username and password. even when I create new users through webmin or the shell prompt, they are not shown in the mail spool directory /var/spool/mail
