Dreaded bounce loop error. Now that I've had some time to regroup, here's some more detail: During the mailx <[email protected]> portion of setup, the directories were not created automatically. I created them with maildirmake as root. I'm unsure of what permissions that the vmail folder/subfolders should have. I figured out how to connect and send mail OUT through the SMTP server - I had thunderbird configured for SSL. I changed it to TLS (going through port 25 by default) and it worked. [email protected] address which exists under users. Any thoughts? I'll keep searching the forums...
I have since added mail.REMOVED.com to the $mydestination = variable in main.cf for postfix. I have checked the dns server and it appears to be setup appropriately? No errors on start and it loads the zones files properly, and the names are resolved.

Ahh I think I overlooked the 'optional' portion of the transport table description. I dropped the info I had in the transport table out and left it empty. I checked the user table and the user exists there. However, mailx to sfunk1x at sfunk1x.com doesn't create the folders I would have expected it to. Maybe I"ll just run through this again from the start on a clean server.
Fixed. mysql-virtual_mailboxes.cf had the wrong configuration. It was identical to the forwards.cf file. Thanks.
