    Greetings community,

    I have trawled a few of the threads on this forum regarding Postfix not being able to receive mail, and I have changed a few configuration options in main.cf, and master.cf, created a file called /etc/mailname per some suggestions, and I am not winning this battle.

    I am worried that I am making all these config changes and that with the problem still existing, that I am barking up the wrong tree.

    If I log in via telnet and send a message, the following occurs:

    Feb 3 20:46:53 nazgul postfix/smtpd[13216]: connect from nazgul.midnightcoders.co.za[127.0.0.1]
    Feb 3 20:48:39 nazgul postfix/smtpd[13216]: 9A38718F75C: client=nazgul.midnightcoders.co.za[127.0.0.1]
    Feb 3 20:49:23 nazgul postfix/cleanup[13311]: 9A38718F75C: message-id=<[email protected]>
    Feb 3 20:49:23 nazgul postfix/qmgr[13194]: 9A38718F75C: from=<[email protected]>, size=461, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
    Feb 3 20:49:23 nazgul postfix/smtp[13359]: connect to mail.pixcel.co.za[69.164.193.4]: Connection refused (port 25)
    Feb 3 20:49:23 nazgul postfix/smtp[13359]: 9A38718F75C: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=96, delays=96/0.01/0/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to mail.pixcel.co.za[69.164.193.4]: Connection refused)
    Feb 3 20:49:30 nazgul postfix/smtpd[13216]: disconnect from nazgul.midnightcoders.co.za[127.0.0.1]

    My main.cf is quite long, are there specific parts I should post ?
    I followed the tutorials on HowtoForge for setting up ISP Config 3 on a Centos 5.4 64 bit server.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    This error is about sending. Do you have problems receiving mails as well?

    Please make sure your IP isn't blacklisted: http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

    What's the output of
    Code:
    postconf -n
    ?

    Hi falko, thank you for your reply,

    I can send mails out from the Squirrelmail interface, and they get received by the recipient.
    However, any incoming mail simply does not show up.

    I checked my server against the blacklist site, the last four tests came back as follows :

    FIVETEN TIMEOUT 0
    ORID TIMEOUT 0
    REDHAWK TIMEOUT ERROR, Reponse code=2 0
    SPAMRBL TIMEOUT

    All other tests passed OK.

    As for the output of postconf -n, it is copied below :

    ================================================
    [root@nazgul ~]# postconf -n
    alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
    alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
    command_directory = /usr/sbin
    config_directory = /etc/postfix
    daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix
    debug_peer_level = 2
    html_directory = no
    inet_interfaces = localhost
    mail_owner = postfix
    mailq_path = /usr/bin/mailq.postfix
    manpage_directory = /usr/share/man
    mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost
    newaliases_path = /usr/bin/newaliases.postfix
    queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix
    readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.3/README_FILES
    sample_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.3/samples
    sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix
    setgid_group = postdrop
    unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550
    ================================================

    Thank you for your assistance, I appreciate your time and knowledge.

    My first thought:

    Derived from your postfix main.cf, your server is bound to: localhost which pretty much locks it out from the rest of the world.
    That's why, when you telnet from localhost to localhost, you see your mail being forwarded to "mail.pixcel.co.za" for further handling, which is the same machine, but it's approaching it from the outside world ip 69.164.193.4.

    Now that's a big no go because of the following line in your main.cf:

    inet_interfaces = localhost

    Change that to:
    inet_interfaces = localhost 69.164.193.4

    Restart postfix, and your server should now be ready to be conquered by the wonderfull world of spam :)

    Hi phamels, thank you for your reply,

    I made the change as you suggested, however, my server is still not ready to be conquered by the world of spam :)

    I now get this when I send mail to the account :

    ==============

    My Google account I sent the mail from responds with a very quick :

    "Technical details of permanent failure:
    Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied (state 14)."

    I also noticed that the entries in main.cf are seperate by a comma, ie localhost, 69.164.193.4, but I tried without, as per your post, and with, still no difference. I get the same message.

    Thank you for your input, I appreciate your willingness to assist with my problem.

    I am not sure if this problem is resolved or not, I did an SMTP Diagnostic on your IP and I sent a manual test by Telnet and everything looks to be good. Let me know if you received the test or not...or if we can try to help with anything else.

    Thank you,

    Hi falko,

    I created the [email protected] email account via the ISPConfig interface about 3 months ago, along with a whole bunch of other accounts for various domains.

    At present when I tail the log the inbound message for all domains are meeting with the same fate of not being delivered.

    @MxToolBox, thank for your assistance, but I did not receive any mail in my inbox.

    The postconf -n output should look different if ISPConfig is installed. I suggest you install it again and let the installer reconfigure all services.
