Hello again, apologies for two posts. I felt that both questions were distinct enough to merit distinct topics :)

Under mysql 2.1, there were distinct select_field, from_field, etc parameters in the .cnf files for mysql. This was changed in 2.2 to allow greater flexibility.

However, 2.1's table structure had a feature I really liked that doesn't seem to be present in 2.2: "last modified", a field that told me the last time the user checked their mail. This is VERY useful to know when users are not checking their email (and to correspondingly yell at them since that's how they're supposed to be doing support). Is there any way to do this in 2.2 with the flexible query interface?

I think you mean Postfix 2.1/2.2?

I think you can use the setup of Postfix 2.1 also for 2.2, but you have to keep in mind that the format of the mysql-*.cf files has changed.
