hi there. I have a server with 4GB of RAm running Debian 5.0 and ISPCFG3 one client sends out a huge newsletter and gets around 6000 bounces back. These bounces all land in the active queue of postfix, amavisd-new has 2 processes running each eating up 40% of my cpu, the load goes to ~4 Basically the server continues to work perfectly but why do all these bounces get stuffed into the active queue? I read some itneresting articles here: http://www.postfix.com/QSHAPE_README.html and here: http://www.postfix.org/TUNING_README.html but I am unsure if postfix is to blame seeing that amavisd-new eats up the CPU cycles. I read up on amavisd-new and high CPU and all I find are references how to speed up spamassassin which I tried already by taking out slow/big rules and stopped networking tests... anymore ideas or suggestions?
why dont u just discard the bounces if you do not do anything with them. And in this case i really do not think postfix is the bottleneck, amavis is most likely the culprit.
ok, how would i discard the bounces before they get delivered? Right now they are not needed until I fix that guy up with a proper mailing list that discards bounces and removes bounced addresses from his mailing list. Besides, I mentioned amavisd-new is eating up all the resources at first, then its postfix, having this huge queue...
Of course, NDR's will be coming from a mail server address and destined to the from address. You can use that if to drop the message.
