Hello everyone I am trying to make a connection between two postfix servers. Let's call my main mail server mail.example.com and the other server admin.example.com which I wanna use it to only send emails via mail.example.com (I am running a cron job on admin server and it needs to send emails). Both are on the same network and have firewalls (UFW) the mail ports are open only on mail.example.com . Why am I doing this?! As I said I needed it for a cron job to send emails when CPU or HDDs reaches X temperature using lm-sensors and hddtemp. If you guys need more information feel free to ask. You are making this much more difficult than it needs to be. On main.server put under mynetworks = admin.server.ip/32 (+what ever was there) On admin.server put under relayhost = main.server.ip rm /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd Restart postfix on both servers... Let the good times begin. When you need to do this in the future, instead when you are installing mailutils it will ask you if you want to setup a relay host and that is what you should do and point it to main.server

You are close. Okay so on your main mail server did you add the IP address of the admin server for mynetworks = ??? So for instance mynetworks = 127.0.0.1/8 192.168.100.0/24 I used your 192.168.100.0 complete class C subnet as an example. That way if you add more servers on that network they will send email correctly already. Then restart postfix on the main server. Then try again.

Ok sooo, I think I've fixed the problem so I will post information here in case someone gets confused as me on what to do as a first timer. First of all I needed to edit the main.cf on admin (I needed to add ',' on this line): Code: smtpd_relay_restrictions = permit_mynetworks , permit_sasl_authenticated , defer_unauth_destination And also changing the relay host to a domain (again on admin server): Code: relayhost = [mail.domain.eu]:587 Needed to edit a little (again on admin server) /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd . From: Code: [mail.domain.eu]:587 user:password To: Code: [mail.domain.eu]:587 [email protected]:password And lastly I added my external IP in main.cf on both servers (not sure if that was needed really): Code: mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 192.168.100.0/24 XXX.XX.XXXX.XXX/32 For now everything works OK, I can send email from admin server VIA terminal and it gets relayed on mail server.
