Hello to everyone, I am very happy with Ispconfig 2. Following the tutorial "Pefect Server Ubuntu 8.04LTS" I get a wonderfull server with many domains, powerfull control and minimal spend of resources. That server was based old P3 with 512MB RAM and 6GB HD. Its great, how that cans work hard and efficient with so minimal configuration. The trouble. But i had that get a Virtual Server for the IP static and the bandwidth, well i get it but this server is Ubuntu 9.04 with ispconfig 3 beta. I am not happy with this, but I thougt time to time, well now i can see that this system with more resources its all time "Out of memory". What i can do? I thought put out Spamassin, Clamav... but i not sure. Thank you a lot
As ISPConfig 3 has much extended spam filtering features and is able to handle a lot more emails per hour then ispconfig 2, it needs more ram or at least a swap space. But on a virtual server, you dont have a swap space, so you need more real RAM then you would need on a physical server. Also if you use a 64bit operating system instead of 32 bit, you will need more rem as 64bit apps are need more ram to run. So either you get more ram for your vserver or you use a physical server that also has swap space or you disable amavisd and clamav, which disables all mail filtering. But the funny questions is, why did you not just used ispconfig 2 if you are satisfied with it. ISPConfig 2 is made for systems with lower resources and is under active development.
Is a 64bit system for ispconfig 3 better if you have enough power (ram, ..)? Or is a 32bit nearly the same?
This depends on the amount of RAM that you have in your server. For <= 2 GB I would use 32bit and for > 2 GB I would use 64Bit.
