I am completely ignorant on how to exactly properly setup DNS using a public service. Lets assume the following: Server Name: boxer Domain name: mysite.com Server runs all services (Web, FTP, Mysql, Mail, POP, SMTP, etc.) Server IP Address: 75.46.241.356 Public Domain: mysite.com Server uses: ISPConfig Domain Name is bought from say Godaddy or similar service and offers complete DNS control. So how should the blanks be filled in?
basically like this: Your mailserver is mail.mysite.com Your ftp server can be accessed by using the www.mysite.com address Your website will work for both www.mysite.com and mysite.com (you will need to set it up in ISPconfig also)
Is TXT a requirement? Also if the mail server is "antec" then I should replace mail with antec everywhere, correct? Does mail say for [email protected] go to the same account as [email protected]? Or does ISPConfig handle where emails go?
I see.. You want to run your own DNS and not use the one from the place you got the domain. In that case you will need to use your own NS server. You will need to create one. (you should have 2 different IP's, but it can also work with one I think) After this you will need to also set it up in ISPconfig.
Dont forget that somewhere you will need to point ns1.xxxxxx and ns2.xxxxx to your static ip address.
