I managed to solve the issue. Apparently there is a pure-ftpd bug with latest mariadb: https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-12889 I solved it by installing pure-ftpd from source: https://nicklasgavelin.se/installing-pure-ftp-on-ubuntu-with-tls-support-virtualchroot-mysql-etc/
Sorry but how did you do it? Does not connect to ISPConfig... PureFTPD does not work with MariaDB 10.2 :/
