Still a couple of months away, but just interested to know what is the best approach to a version upgrade, should I update or do a fresh install and restore ISPconfig and sites from backup? (which is what I have done since Ubuntu 14.04) TIA
Normally, you should be able to just update the OS. No need for a fresh install. But do not update before we announce that ISPConfig is compatible as Ubuntu 22.04 will use PHP 8 and ISPConfig does not support PHP 8 yet.
Thanks, that's the information I was looking for, any hints on the progress of ISPConfig to php 8 as I am sitting tight on a couple of site grades to Joomla 4, I figured it would be easier to do it all in one hit
The two are probably entirely unrelated, you can install php 8 as an alternate version and set these sites to use it today. I don't know of anyone having begun to look at ISPConfig supporting php8 yet.
Oh, I agree I already have php 8 installed as an alternative, and a fresh install of Joomla 4 works fine, not the case with an upgraded site, I guess I should admit that I am just looking for excuses to avoid the inevitable dramas of tracking down what doesn't work with php 8!
If that site does not work when you use PHP 8 as an additional PHP version in ISPConfig, then it will stop working when upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04 too. If ISPConfig itself supports PHP 8 or not does not matter for the sites, as you can use PHP 8 and PHP 8.1 as website PHP versions in ISPConfig already. And we will start working on PHP 8 support when Ubuntu 22.04 has been released.
