If you setup RAID 1 in the motherboard BIOS, do you need to set anything up in the Sarge install, or is the RAID automatically seen as a single drive during the install? I've heard a RAID 1 BIOS setup is where if one of the drives fails, you can just remove it and run from a single drive, then if you insert an identical blank drive, it copies itself. Is that correct?
About Debian 64 and software RAID Maybe, it depends if you have hardware RAID with a RAID controller or software RAID. On my Debian (64 bit) server, i have software RAID. The mode in the BIOS is set to RAID 1 and i've setup RAID 1, using the unofficial 64 bit Sarge CD. After setting up RAID 1, your hdds are going to sync. for a long time. (It's possible that this takes 1 hour or so). When you're finished with this, you have a nice RAID 1 Debian system and f the RAID array falls, you'll receive an e-mail form the system, so you can take action.
If you have a hardware raid everything you mentioned is correct. Best thing is with raid + hotplug so you even don't need to power off the machine...
